POIPU, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) –

An 80-year-old visitor died while snorkeling in waters off Poipu Beach Monday morning, according to Kauai police.

The woman, identified as Alicia Snakard, of Connecticut, went snorkeling in shallow waters off the beach with another woman in her family’s group.

While Snakard was snorkeling, she was eventually seen as unresponsive and was brought to shore by her group member.

Lifeguards on scene immediately began CPR and firefighter and medics arrived on scene shortly after.

The woman was transported to Wilcox Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to police.

A cause of death is pending an autopsy report.
