SALINA, Kan. The subject of a FactFinder 12 investigation this summer faces charges in connection with financial crimes.
Records from the Saline County Sheriff’s Office show on Wednesday (Oct. 16) Mark Alan Ash was booked into the Saline County Jail on charges of impairing a security interest, selling/disposing of personal property and theft by deception.
Jail records indicate Ash posted bail Wednesday afternoon, showing his release about three hours after being booked.
In August, FactFinder 12 investigator/Eyewitness News anchor Michael Schwanke looked into Ash’s business, H2O Aquatic Adventures and accusations he took customers’ money for scuba diving trips that never happened.
Customers told us Ash owed them about $10,000 for trips and equipment. Those owed money said Ash told them their money was held by a third-party travel agent. He wouldn’t give them an agent’s name and eventually came clean to FactFinder 12, admitting he was lying about the third party and he had the money.
He explained spring flooding slowed business and he was struggling to keep the doors open at his Salina shop. He told FactFinder 12 in late August that he intended to pay customers back, but admitted it may take some time. At that time, he claimed to have paid about five customers back, but admitted to owing more than a dozen others.
Ash closed his storefront, but continued offering private lessons and said he stopped booking trips.
