A Marine Safety Information Bulletin was issued by the U.S. Coast Guard for the those that enjoy the sport of scuba diving.

Risks can be associated with the sport that can lead to disastrous incidents.

USCG Sector North Carolina has provided the following practices to help increase dive safety:

  • Carry and emergency transmitter.
  • Plan the dive, ensure correct gear, and conduct a safety check on the diving equipment.
  • At depth, follow dive table parameters to prevent decompression sickness and air embolisms.
  • Seek medical advice on health concerns or medications taken prior to diving.
  • Do not consume alcohol or drugs before diving.
  • Always dive with a buddy diver.
