American Tourist Dies in Tragic Snorkeling Accident at Glover’s Reef

An American national lost his life while swimming in the waters of the Glover’s Reef Atoll less than a week after arriving in the country. Yesterday, 74-year-old Kent Foster and his wife chartered a catamaran to snorkel near Southwest Caye. Around 10:30 a.m., Foster, a retiree of California, went into the water, but twenty minutes later, he stated that he was having trouble with this snorkel. Police say Foster then began to float on his back and started to drift, which led to his wife grabbing him by the warm and realizing he was unconscious. Foster was then pulled into the boat and attempts were made to resuscitate him. However, Foster remained unresponsive, prompting the boat’s captain to ferry him to the hospital in Dangriga Town. According to police, Foster was diagnosed with Aortic Dissection, a condition in which a tear occurs in the aorta. He had visited a doctor three weeks ago in the USA. No foul play is suspected. The couple arrived in the country on April 11.
