Post Falls woman dies in Key Largo snorkeling accident

KEY LARGO, Fla. –

Sheriff’s deputies in Monroe County, Florida, say a woman from Post Falls died in a snorkeling accident over the weekend. 

Florida deputies say the 54-year-old woman, identified as Melinda Loudeneck, dies Saturday afternoon off Key Largo.

Loudeneck was snorkeling off the charter boat Journey around 4 p.m. near Grecian Rocks when the accident happened, according to deputies. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission responded and CPR was performed continually after arriving at he Port Largo Homeowners Park in Key Largo where paramedics were waiting. 

She was taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier where she was pronounced dead.

Deputies say the cause of her loss of consciousness is still under investigation, but they don’t expect foul play.

Deputies report an autopsy is pending.
