1. AquaSketch Tablet

One of the cool things about attending DEMA is that you can meet the faces behind the products, and sometimes that means shaking the hand of the inventor. That’s the case for the AquaSketch Tablet, which is new for 2019 and was born from artist and diver Mark Hagan, who wanted to be able to take a sketchbook underwater for his drawings. He became obsessed with getting paper underwater, and now supplies the US Navy and defence department with what he claims is the world’s only scrolling slate – the AquaSketch Minno.

But this year he’s here to promote his newest invention – AquaSketch Tablet – which enables you to print your own dive slates from your laser printer onto 100% waterproof synthetic paper that’s reusable and costs less than $1 per sheet. You then slot this into the tablet and away you dive. A couple of divers near the stand were very excited about this for wreck diving maps and fish ID purposes. These tablets can be snapped together if you dive with more than one, and come with three sheets of paper as standard or you can buy a pack of 22. It’ll be priced at $32.95 and available in the US from January 2019. It is also set to make it to the UK too.

2. Serenity 2 Sonar dive computer and boat locator

This multifunction connected diving geolocating system enables you to locate your boat quickly and easily within one kilometre. It gives you the direction, the distance to cover and it guides you back to the boat thanks to a transponder immersed under the hull and a connected compass system. Light and compact, it is charges with an induction pad and users can choose the strap. You can also share dive plans with other divers so you’re both on the same page. 3. Ni-Glo gear marker

DEMA also showcases smaller inventions – the Ni-Glo gear marker being one of them! This is a fun, neat product that is a self glowing kit marker. It quickly recharges by sun or artificial light sources, then glows for up to 10 hours in darkness. Perfect for night dives. It’s waterproof up to 50m, power and battery free and there’s no chemical reaction involved. It’ll be available in the UK for around five euros.

4. The Remora Solo

Divers know that looking after their kit is essential, but what about maintaining the other sort of kit that gets you to your dive location? This is a new cordless battery operated handheld underwater scrubbing cleaning tool, designed to keep boats looking tip top. It’s  for boat owners and professionals, and apparently makes hull cleaning a snap. It has variable speed control, a nine inch diameter brush and the battery allows you to use it for up to six hours on a single charge. Check out http://remoramarine.com/ for more info.
