The Upper Midwest Scuba and Adventure Travel Show is coming to Vadnais Heights April 13.
The show, which features 18 exhibitors and five special speakers, shipwreck hunters, educators, underwater photographers and archaeologists, will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Jimmy’s Event Center, 3565 Labore Road. Topics include the USS Arizona, shipwrecks of Isle Royale, comparing Caribbean dive destinations and the Choctow and Ohio wrecks. Participants will see the latest in diving equipment, get information on worldwide travel dive spots and learn about maritime history.
Featured speaker Brett Seymour, deputy chief of the U.S. National Park Service’s Submerged Resources Center in Denver, has been a full-time underwater photographer with the NPS since 1994. He specializes in documenting historically significant underwater sites around the world, such as the 200 BC Antikythera shipwreck in Greece, the Civil War submarine HL Hunley, the arctic exploration vessel HMS Investigator, the submerged B29 Superfortress in Lake Mead and WWII sites throughout the Pacific.
The show doubles as a fundraiser for the Great Lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society. Raffle tickets will be sold and donations accepted. Tickets are $20 online and $25 at the door. Student tickets are $5. For details, go online to www.umsatshow.org.
