An American national died on Thursday, January 3 after coming into difficulty while snorkeling off the Seven Mile Beach.

According to reports, shortly after 2 pm, the man had been out on a snorkeling trip and lost consciousness while in the water.

The 60-year-old US citizen was taken out of the water onto a nearby vessel where CPR was performed, but the man remained unresponsive as he was taken back to shore.

He was met on shore by emergency services who transported him to the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment, where he was later pronounced dead.
