Officials with the Hawaii Police Department responded to reports of the incident shortly after 10 a.m. on Thursday after crew members during a guided snorkeling tour spotted the man drifting face down toward the boat

An 83-year-old man from Centerville has died after an apparent drowning incident in Kona, Hawaii.

Officials with the Hawaii Police Department responded to reports of the incident shortly after 10 a.m. on Thursday after crew members during a guided snorkeling tour spotted the man drifting face down toward the boat off of the Keauhou Pier.

The man, later identified as Wayne Argyle of Centerville, Utah, was retrieved from the waters after crew members attempted to call his name and tap him on the back to alert him.

Despite resuscitation efforts, Argyle was pronounced dead while being transferred to Kona Community Hospital.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death; no foul play was suspected.
