NEAR CASSVILLE, Mo. (KY3) – Missouri Highway Patrol reports a diver died in Roaring River State Park near Cassville.
The diver, Eric Hahn, 27, of Charlottesville, Virginia, is a group member doing weekly dives at the state park.
He belonged to a group called KISS rebreather divers & explorers. We reported on the team’s work in February, “The Roaring River Spring has only been explored three times in the last half-century. Five members of the KISS Rebreathers dive team returned to look at a more detailed map of the spring to create a 3D image or model of the cave.” We also reported the divers found a huge room deep in the cave. They had made it past a restriction 230 feet down.
Investigators say the accident today happened around 190 feet deep. They believe there was an equipment malfunction but will not know until an inspection is complete.
The group’s dive team, not the Missouri Highway Patrol’s, is handling the recovery of the body. An autopsy will be done.
