The Conasauga Snorkel Hole is located in the middle of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, near the Georgia-Tennessee state line, about two hours from Atlanta.
Here, any level of experienced snorkelers can take a dive into the hole and see hundreds of species of wildlife. Grab a snorkel from the store and your bathing suit and be on your way.

Do you have to have any certifications?
You don’t have to have any sort of certification to take a dive into the Conasauga River.It’s not very deep, so you won’t be too submerged underwater while you’re exploring the bottom of the river.
While scuba diving in tropical destinations or in the ocean you’ll definitely need certification and expensive equipment, but here, you don’t need any of that.
However, you may want to bring water shoes, dry towels, some snacks, water, a change of clothes, sunscreen, and maybe a wetsuit if you’re visiting during more cool months.
What types of marine life will you see?
You could see thousands of fish during your visit, and there are over 45 species of native fish in the Conasauga Watershed.
There’s everything from freshwater drum and bass to bream and colorful darters and shiners.
There’s also turtles, tadpoles, and salamanders that call this destination their home, so you could get lucky and see these animals as well.
Remember, this is their home so don’t harm them nor collect them to take home with you.
How much is it?
The river is completely free to explore. Anyone can come and snorkel here and not have to pay a dime.
There are other nearby rivers and streams that you can explore after your journey in the Conasauga Hole, like Citico Creek.
If you have a group of 12 to 25 people that you want to go on a guided snorkeling adventure with, the cost is only $25 per person.
