SOUTH FORK— The South Fork Fire Rescue (SFFR) team spent some time continuing their dive training on Saturday, Aug. 24, sharing their expertise with fellow team members that had yet to be trained. The department was fortunate to receive dive equipment that was donated in 2016 and has continued their dive training ever since.
“We would like to thank the Elk Creek Ranch for allowing us to use their lake for the training,” said SFFR Public Information Officer Linette Nye-Schmidt. The group spent the day in the water learning the ins and outs of successful diving, testing equipment and learning how to navigate Colorado waters. The team has been able to use their diving skills over the last several months while aiding in the search for two individuals that fell into the Rio Grande river on separate occasions earlier this spring.
The department recently received two different grants from the Greater South Fork Community Foundation to help purchase four bullet-proof vests for firefighters and a grant to help with the purchase of another defibrillator.
